Frequently Asked Questions

Below are the questions we get asked most often about downloading and installing Android apps, games and MOD APKs from APKGStore. If you do not find your answer here, you can always reach us through the Contact page.

Is it safe to download APKs from APKGStore?

Yes, when the file is verified — and on APKGStore every file is. Before a download goes live, our editors source it from the official developer or a trusted, verified mirror, scan it with multiple antivirus engines for malware and spyware, review the permissions it requests, and install it on a real Android device to confirm it works. We also check the package signature so you get the genuine app and not a tampered copy. As an extra layer of safety, keep Google Play Protect turned on and only download from sources you trust.

What is an APK file?

An APK (Android Package Kit) is the standard installer file for Android apps — the same format Google Play uses behind the scenes. When you download an app from outside the Play Store, you install it from this APK file. Our install guide walks you through it step by step.

What is an XAPK file and how do I install it?

An XAPK is an APK bundled together with its extra data (OBB) in a single file, used by larger games. You cannot install it directly the way you install a plain APK — you need a free XAPK installer app. Install the installer, open the .xapk file with it, and it unpacks and installs everything for you automatically.

What is a MOD APK?

A MOD is a modified version of an app or game, changed by the community to unlock premium features, remove ads, or adjust gameplay (for example, extra coins or unlocked levels). On APKGStore every MOD is clearly labelled, and we describe exactly what has been changed. MOD versions are provided for testing and educational purposes only. For ordinary free apps we always offer the original, unmodified APK as well.

Do I need to create an account or pay anything?

No. APKGStore is completely free and requires no registration. We will never ask for your name, phone number, a sign-up, or a premium-rate SMS. You can browse and download right away.

Why won’t an app install? (“App not installed”)

This is almost always one of three things: installation from unknown sources is turned off, an older version of the app is already on your phone, or the download did not finish correctly. Allow installs from your browser or file manager, uninstall the old version first, free up some storage, and re-download the file if needed. Our install guide covers each fix in detail.

How do I update an app I installed from here?

Apps installed from an APK do not auto-update through Google Play. When a new version is released, we update the app’s page on APKGStore — just come back, download the latest APK, and install it over the existing app (your data usually stays). You can also use the “Request an update” link on any app page to ask us to refresh it.

Are the apps the same as on Google Play?

For free apps, yes — we share the original, unmodified APK, identical to the Play Store build. MOD versions are different by design: they are modified and clearly marked as such, so you always know whether you are getting the official app or a community MOD.

Do I have to turn off “unknown sources” afterwards?

You do not have to, but you can. Turning the setting off again after installing adds a small extra layer of safety, and you can simply turn it back on the next time you need to install an APK.

A download is broken or a file looks wrong. What do I do?

Use the Report a problem link on the app’s page — it goes straight to the editor responsible for that file, with the details we need to fix it fast. This is the quickest way to get a broken download repaired.

I’m a developer or rights holder. How do I contact you?

If you want your app added or featured, or you own content on the site and want it removed or corrected, see Information for Copyright Holders and our DMCA page, or email us through the Contact page.
