Viu APK is the official Android app for Viu, the Asian streaming service run by PCCW Media (Vuclip). A large part of the catalog is free to watch with ads, while ad-free viewing, early access and offline downloads sit behind a Viu Premium subscription. Our editors scanned this file for malware and installed it on a real Android phone before publishing, the check we have run since 2018. One honest note up front: this is the original app, not a patched build, so it does not hand you Premium for free.

What is Viu?

Viu is a streaming service built around Asian entertainment: Korean dramas first, then shows and movies from Japan, Thailand, China, Indonesia and the Middle East, plus Viu Originals you will not find elsewhere. Most titles carry subtitles in several languages, so you can follow a K-drama in English, Bahasa, Thai, Chinese or Arabic. Video streams in HD where your plan and connection allow.

The app is made by Vuclip, part of PCCW Media Group, and it runs the same way installed from Google Play or from the APK on this page. What you can watch depends on your region, since licensing differs from country to country.

Free vs Viu Premium

Viu works on a freemium model. You can open the app, sign in and stream a big slice of the catalog for free, with ads before and between episodes. Premium is the paid tier, billed as a subscription through Google Play or your Viu account.

The important part: none of this lives inside the APK. Your account and its Premium status are checked on Viu's servers every time you play something, so the file you install cannot change what your account is allowed to watch.

Why a Premium mod does not work

Search for Viu and you will find aggregator sites promising free Premium, no ads and endless downloads from a modified APK. Here is why that does not hold up. Viu verifies your subscription and streaming rights on its own servers, and the video itself is protected by DRM. A modified client cannot fake a paid account against a server it does not control, so those Premium features either never switch on or stop working after a check.

There is also the plain security cost: files from those sites are repackaged apps that can carry extra code you never asked for. We take a simpler route and give you the original, signed Viu app, so the client on your phone is the real one. Premium, if you want it, comes from a real subscription.

How to download and install the Viu APK

1. Tap the green Download APK button at the top of this page. The file is about 28 MB and downloads directly, no registration or SMS.
2. Allow installation from unknown sources for your browser or file manager (Settings then Security).
3. If a Play Store copy is already installed with a different signature, remove it first so the new file installs cleanly.
4. Open the file, tap Install, then launch Viu. The app needs Android 7.1 or newer.
5. Sign in or create a free Viu account to start watching. If you want ad-free viewing and offline saves, you can add Viu Premium inside the app.

Viu vs the official Play version

This is the same original app you would get on Google Play, so the features and your account work identically. The APK is handy when Play is unavailable in your region, when an update has not reached your device yet, or when you simply prefer to sideload. Either way, the free tier stays free and Premium stays a subscription, so signing up in the app is the way to support the service.
