What is REDCON?

REDCON is a real-time strategy game by Hexage, set in a dieselpunk alternate history after the First World War. You command your own fortress, a towering war machine packed with cannons, mortars and repair crews. Battles play out in real time against enemy forts, and the campaign follows a war between the Empire and a rebel force led by General Kranz.

The combat borrows from FTL. You do not move a fleet: you run a single stronghold and keep it firing. Active Pause is the core tool. Freeze time, study the enemy fort room by room, then queue your orders. Aim each gun at a specific weapon or crew station, send soldiers to man positions, put out fires and repair damaged guns before they fall silent.

Gameplay

Between missions you rebuild and grow the fortress, and every battle feeds into the next one.

• Develop and upgrade your arsenal: cannons, mortars, rockets and support utilities.
• Plan the internal layout so power, ammo and crews reach the guns that need them.
• React under pressure, because incoming shells start fires, knock out weapons and wound your crew mid-fight.
• Work through the mission campaign, with each fort tougher than the one before it.

It rewards tactical thinking over fast fingers. The Active Pause lets you read a bad situation, spread your fire across the enemy's weak points and pull crews off a burning deck before you lose them.
