What is Wrestling Empire?

Wrestling Empire is a retro, pixel-style wrestling simulator by Mat Dickie (MDickie), the solo developer behind the long-running Wrestling MPire and Wrestling Revolution games. It arrived in 2021 on Switch, iOS and Android, and it keeps the same hand-drawn, slightly chaotic charm the series is known for.

You create your own wrestler, pick a look and a fighting style, then push them up the ranks. Customization runs deep: appearance, moves, personality and rivalries. The world holds up to 350 opponents spread across 10 rosters, and matches spill into the environment, so chairs, tables and anything nearby become weapons. There are no loading screens between the action. The download is about 213 MB and it needs Android 7.0 or newer.

Game modes

Three modes give the game its shape, and the sandbox is where it really opens up.

• Career: take one wrestler from rookie to champion. The character you pick at the start is locked in, so every choice you make sticks.
• Booking: step behind the desk as a promoter, book the shows, decide the card and run the roster instead of fighting yourself.
• Roaming: the open sandbox. Walk around backstage, talk to other wrestlers, and start fights or storylines wherever you want, with no set objective.

Roaming is the part people come back for: it turns the game from a match simulator into a small wrestling world you can poke at.

All the paid Pro and VIP features are open from the start, with no membership to buy. Because everything in this game is stored and calculated on your own device, giving you Pro access is honest: it changes what is available to you locally and nothing on any server.

Wrestling Empire is offline and single-player. There is no online PvP, no ranked ladder and no shared economy, so Pro access gives you no edge over anyone else, there is nobody else to face.
