The description of MacroDroid – Device Automation
Not everyone can imagine what Android automation applications can do. MacroDroid – hundreds of ready-made examples that have already been tested and loved by other users. Learn more about them to find a use for yourself.
Once my home Wi-Fi fell off, and the streaming service Twitch quietly switched to the mobile Internet and continued broadcasting. The transition was smooth, and I didn’t notice it. After a while, the phone was warned that the traffic via cellular networks was coming to an end. It’s a good thing I’m keeping an eye on mobile megabytes. Otherwise, I would have had to pay too much for it.
In general, after that case, I thought about how to forcibly roll up the heavy application, if the Internet switches from Wi-Fi to mobile data transmission. The programs for Android automation came to mind at once. Focusing on the rating and the number of reviews, I chose MacroDroid. A friendly interface and full functionality for five macros also spoke in favor of this utility.
A macro is a script that will execute an application if it detects an event (trigger) and checks the condition of its triggering. For example, a trigger can be a shake of the phone, the state is the time of day from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m., and the action is switching on the flashlight. Thus triggers, situations, and events can be some.
So, MacroDroid offers 59 triggers, 92 actions, and 35 conditions. Together they give a myriad of scenarios. There is something to come up with, although you can use the ready-made recipes, there are hundreds of them.
The templates are grouped into three categories: local in the local language, popular among international audiences, and the latest added ones. Click on any macro to edit it or add it to the collection without changes.
Like it and work – put your finger up. This way, the macro will gain popularity faster and become higher in the rating. They came up with something special – share it with others. However, we can’t count on a huge success, apparently, anymore. Narrowly specific scenarios are unlikely to gain the necessary number of likes, and the most common patterns are already firmly anchored on the top lines of the rating.
I will briefly describe the five best macros in the opinion of MacroDroid users:
- A search of the phone through the SMS-message which text contains word combination FIND ME. E-mails can be received from any number.
- Turns on the flash when shaking your smartphone. The script is borrowed from Moto X.
- Front camera photo after two failed attempts to unlock the unit. Repeats the functionality of CrookCatcher.
- Turn on the voice recorder if the smartphone is turned face down. Spy stuff, you know.
- Activate and deactivate Wi-Fi after waking up and fading the screen. Save battery power in all its glory.
- As you can see, the templates are handy. It’s a pity that only five macros can be used in the basic version.
The full or rather unlimited version of MacroDroid costs 2.6 dollars. However, you should not rush to buy until you are sure that everything works correctly. Why so? First, some scenarios require root-rights. Secondly, it takes time to understand how this or that macro affects the battery.
Finally, firmware features and specific smartphone settings may not be compatible with a trigger or event. Check and decide if you want to pay extra for removing restrictions. And, of course, don’t forget to share your recipes in the comments.
