Permissions & privacy

To redraw your notification shade, One Shade needs Android's Accessibility permission. That is normal for an app that has to sit on top of the system UI, but it is a strong permission, so grant it on purpose and only to a file you trust. Per the developer, the app does not read sensitive on-screen data, it uses the access to render its own shade over the stock one.

If that trade-off feels like too much, that is a fair call, only you decide what to enable. When you do turn it on, you can revoke it later in Settings the same way you granted it. The file on this page is the same build we tested, and we re-check it after each update.

How to download and install

The download is a small APK, around 13 MB, and it installs like any sideloaded app. Here is the order that works.

1. Tap the green Download APK button at the top of this page, the file downloads directly, no registration or SMS.
2. Allow installation from unknown sources for your browser or file manager (Settings → Security).
3. If the Google Play version is already installed, remove it first, the MOD has a different signature and won't install over it.
4. Open the file, tap Install, then launch One Shade.
5. Grant the Accessibility permission when the app asks, so it can draw your custom shade.

The original One Shade is free on Google Play, with Pro sold as an in-app purchase or subscription, so if you want to back ZipoApps that is the way to do it.
