The game leans on real physics. Crashes deform the body, and you can switch ABS, ESP and traction control on or off mid-drive to change how the car handles. Turn the aids off and the rear steps out for proper drifts; turn them on and the car stays planted. Full control is up to you: the game supports tilt steering, an on-screen wheel or buttons, and you can add a manual gearbox with a clutch when you want more to do with your hands.

On top of free roam you get a traffic mode for dodging cars in live traffic, checkpoint runs against the clock, and small mini-games that test control. The map is one large open city, highways, ramps, parking lots and side streets, so you can line up a jump, hunt for a long straight to top out a supercar, or just cruise. There are no story missions and no repair costs here; the loop is drive, crash, reset, drive again. It is easy to start and takes real practice to master.
