What is Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour?

Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour is a 2012 first-person shooter by Gameloft, built on the Havok engine and set in the year 2037. It was the entry that pushed the series to its high point, with roughly ten story missions of set-piece firefights across a world sliding into war. When it launched it was a paid game, priced around $6.99, a premium release for a phone at the time.

The campaign has a twist most shooters skip: you don’t only play the special-forces side. Part of the story puts you in the boots of the antagonist, Edward Page, the man behind the chaos. That back-and-forth gives Zero Hour a sharper story than a straight one-hero shooter, and the mission design still holds up as tight, cinematic action today. It is rated for the violence you would expect from a military game.

Why it’s gone from Google Play (and what that means)

Gameloft removed its older premium titles from the app stores, and the legacy Modern Combat games went with them. There is no official page to buy Zero Hour anymore. It exists today as an APK archive and nothing else, which is the whole reason a page like this one is here. Tap an old store link and you reach a dead end.

One thing to be straight about: the online multiplayer is dead. Gameloft shut the servers off, so the PvP the game once had no longer connects, and no download can bring it back. The single-player campaign is untouched, though, and it runs fully offline. That is the part you are here for, and it works.

What the MOD gives you

The MOD build does two useful things. First, the money: your in-game credits are unlimited, so every weapon, sight and upgrade is affordable from the start. Because the campaign is offline and the currency is stored on your own device, this MOD is honest. There is no server balance to fake and no account to ban.

That second row matters more than it looks. The original Google Play APK for a delisted game can hit a Gameloft license check. The game phones home to confirm you bought it, fails because the store is gone, and refuses to start. Our editors ran into exactly that on a test device. The MOD build on this page does not ask for that check, which is often the difference between a game that opens and one that doesn’t. To keep expectations straight: the MOD touches the campaign money and the license gate, nothing more. It does not revive the dead multiplayer.

How to install Modern Combat 4 (APK + OBB 1.2 GB)

This game comes in two parts, and both are on this page: a small APK and a large OBB cache, the OBB alone is about 1.2 GB, so keep roughly 2.5 GB of free space for the download and unpacking. The whole install takes a few minutes.

1. Tap the green Download APK button at the top of this page (grab the MOD build), then download the OBB file listed with it. Both come directly, no registration or SMS.
2. Allow installation from unknown sources for your browser or file manager (Settings → Security).
3. Move the OBB into the Android/obb/com.gameloft.android.ANMP.GloftM4HM/ folder, creating it if it isn’t there yet. Any file manager can do this.
4. Install the APK, but don’t open it right away, let it find the OBB first.
5. Launch the game from your app drawer. The campaign, and your unlimited credits, are ready.
