Test DPC is Google's free, open-source Device Policy Controller for Android Enterprise: a developer tool for testing how an app behaves inside a managed work profile or on a device owned by an organization. It is not a game, not a mod, and not a paid app. There is nothing here to pay for or modify. This page hosts the APK, checked for malware and installed on a real Android device by our editors before publishing, so developers and IT admins can grab a clean copy.

What is Test DPC?

Test DPC (Test Device Policy Controller) is a sample app from Google, published in the googlesamples/android-testdpc repository under the Apache 2.0 license. The package name is com.afwsamples.testdpc, where afw stands for Android for Work, the earlier name of Android Enterprise. It has been around since 2015 and runs on Android 5.0 and newer.

The app stands in for a real enterprise management system. It can set itself up as a device owner or a profile owner, then apply the same kinds of policies an EMM would push in production. That lets a developer see exactly how an app reacts inside a managed context before any real company deploys it. Google is clear on one point: Test DPC is for development only, not for production use.

What you can do with it

Once Test DPC is running as device owner or profile owner, it exposes the common Android Enterprise controls in a plain menu. The tasks developers reach for most:

None of this needs a live EMM server. Test DPC plays the role of the management system on the device itself. Because it calls the real Android Enterprise APIs, the behavior you see here matches what a production EMM would trigger, which is the whole point of testing against it.

Who is it for?

Two groups. Android developers who need to confirm an app works under enterprise management: managed configurations, restricted settings, work-profile behavior. And IT admins or students learning how DPCs and Android Enterprise work, without standing up a full EMM.

For an ordinary phone user there is nothing to gain here. Test DPC adds restrictions, it does not remove them.

Free and open-source, no "mod" needed

There is no Pro version, no premium tier, and no MOD build of Test DPC, because none of that would mean anything. The app is already free and its full source is public. Any "modded Test DPC" you see elsewhere is just the same open code, possibly repackaged. The honest version is the plain one: download the APK here or build it yourself from Google's repository. That is the whole product.

How to download and install

1. Tap the Download APK button at the top of this page, or grab a release straight from Google's GitHub repository. The file is about 12.8 MB.
2. Allow installation from unknown sources for your browser or file manager (Settings → Security).
3. Open the file and tap Install. Android 5.0 or newer is required.
4. Launch Test DPC and follow the setup to make it a profile owner or device owner.

One honest warning: setting Test DPC as device owner usually has to happen on a freshly reset device, often through a provisioning QR code or an ADB command, and it can wipe existing data. The version on this page matches a public Google release. Check the repository if you want the newest tag, since Google ships updates there first.
