What is YMusic?

YMusic is a lightweight app (about 7.6 MB) built around one idea: play YouTube as if it were a music app. You search a song or a video, and the sound keeps going when you lock the phone or switch to another app. That fixes the biggest limit of the normal YouTube app, where audio stops the moment the screen goes dark.

On top of background play, it can pull the audio out of a video and save it as a file. MP3 works everywhere; M4A holds slightly better quality at the same size. You also get playlists, shuffle, and a sleep timer for listening in bed. It has no private music catalog of its own: everything it plays and saves comes from YouTube, so the sound quality depends on the source video.

Why YMusic is not on Google Play

Google Play does not allow apps that download video or audio from YouTube. That rule is the reason YMusic ships as an APK instead of a store listing. If you search the Play Store for it, you will find lookalikes and unrelated apps, not the real one.

Because it lives outside the store, you install it by allowing unknown sources on your phone. That is a normal, built-in Android setting, and we walk through it below.

Is YMusic legal and safe?

Two separate questions here, so let us keep them apart. The file itself: the build on this page was scanned for malware and installed on a real device by our editors before it went live, the same check we have run since 2018. Download only from the button on this page.

The bigger question is what you do with it. Saving copyrighted music or video without permission can break YouTube's terms of service and local copyright law. Keep it to personal use and to content you are allowed to save, for example your own uploads, public-domain tracks, or audio a creator has cleared for download. We are not going to pretend this part does not exist.

Free build vs "Premium" or "MOD" versions

The base YMusic is free. Around the web you will see builds labeled "Premium", "No Ads", or "MOD". In almost every case the only real difference is that the ads are removed. There is no hidden set of premium features to switch on: the core playback and saving tools are the same as in the free app.

The badge on this card marks an original, ad-free build, not a modified feature set. We are not going to promise premium powers the app does not have.

How to download and install YMusic APK

2. Allow installation from unknown sources for your browser or file manager (Settings, then Security or Apps, then Install unknown apps).

Tips for getting the most out of it

• Lock the screen right after a track starts. Playback keeps going, and the display stops draining your battery.
• Set the sleep timer before bed so music stops on its own after a set time.
• Save a few playlists as offline audio before a trip or commute, so you are not spending mobile data on the road.
• Clear the app cache now and then if storage gets tight. Your saved files stay; only temporary data goes.
