What is Cadillacs & Dinosaurs?

The story starts as a comic. Xenozoic Tales imagined a far-future Earth where the climate collapsed, cities fell, and dinosaurs walked the land again next to the people who survived. A cartoon followed, and in 1993 Capcom turned it into a CPS-1 arcade game. You play a mechanic and his crew who keep a fleet of hand-built "Cadillacs" running while fighting off poachers and a greedy industrialist.

There are four playable heroes: Jack Tenrec, Hannah Dundee, Mustapha Cairo and Mess O'Bradovich. Each has a slightly different mix of speed and power. You move through 8 stages, chaining punch-kick combos, tossing enemies, and grabbing pipes, knives and guns off the ground. Special moves cost a sliver of your own health, so you learn when to spend them. It is a straight-up brawler, and it still holds up.

The Android port

The port keeps the original pixel art, so it looks like the machine you remember from the mall. Sprites, backgrounds and that chunky 90s HUD are all intact. The one real downside on a phone is the on-screen joystick, it eats a corner of the display and your thumb covers the action during busy fights.

The fix is a controller. The build reads a Bluetooth or USB gamepad, which gives you clean directional control and real buttons for attack and jump. There is also a local co-op mode: one player hosts, another joins over the same network through the Option menu, so two of you can clear a stage together. The download is small, about 34.8 MB, and it runs on Android 5.0 and up.

Is it official?

Here is the honest part. This is not an official Capcom release. It is a fan-made, emulator-based port of the classic arcade ROM, and the Cadillacs and Dinosaurs rights belong to Capcom. There is no paid listing for it on Google Play, the "Get it on" search will not land on a real store page, because one does not exist for this title.

What that means for you is simple. The game plays exactly as it did in the arcade, and there is no in-game currency anywhere in it. So an "unlimited money" or coin MOD does not exist and would do nothing, there is no shop and no balance to change. Anyone selling you a money mod for this game is making it up. You just get the free APK of a 30-year-old classic, and that is the whole point.

• Save your special move. It clears space fast but chips your own health, so hold it for a crowd or a boss, not one straggler.
• Pick up everything. Pipes, knives and dropped guns hit harder than bare fists, and food restores your health bar.
• Learn the throw and block timing. Grabbing an enemy and tossing him into others breaks up a pile-up better than mashing attack.
• Play on a gamepad if you can. The on-screen stick is fine for a quick session, but real buttons win the tight fights.
• Bring a friend. Two players in local co-op make the later bosses much easier to wear down.

Why play it today

Part of it is nostalgia, plain and simple. This was a favorite in arcades, and a lot of people never got to own it. The other part is how well a short, offline brawler fits a phone, you can drop in for one stage on a bus and drop out again, no internet needed.
